Motorist Shot Driving Near 67 Freeway In East County

LAKESIDE, CA – A driver was wounded Monday evening in a car-to-car shooting in Lakeside.

Deputies responded about 5:50 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Winter Gardens Boulevard and the San Vicente (67) Freeway and found a man next to his car with a gunshot wound to the arm, according to Sgt. Amber Reeves of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A witness told deputies the victim was shot at by someone in another vehicle, described only as a four-door sedan, Reeves said. The victim pulled off the road and the suspect vehicle drove away from the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital to undergo surgery for his gunshot wound, Reeves said.

A detailed description of the shooter or suspect vehicle was not immediately available.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
