New Truck Rental Business Approved by City Council

Garmo U-Haul Rental was given a five-year Conditional Use Permit for 7753 Mission Gorge Road.

After months of hearings in front of the City Council, leading to adequate adjustments to the business plan and landscaping, Garmo U-Haul Rental was given a five-year Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for 7753 Mission Gorge Road.

The unanimous vote approving the CUP at Wednesday's City Council meeting was the only item of note dealt with at the 13 minute meeting- one of the shortest on record.

The original concept for the business, brought forth at the August 8 meeting, was to include truck rental, used car sales and a pawn shop on the premises. The council had the applicant scale back to strictly truck rental and the applicant agreed to improve the landscaping and view from the street. Councilmember Jack Dale said the CUP will be re-evaluated after five years to make sure the business is a good fit for the area. Dale mentioned that one point of opposition to the CUP was from nearby condo residents that were interested in seeing a more commercial shopping business come into that spot.

It was not made clear at the meeting when the business would begin operating.
