Santee Man Arrested After Hourslong SWAT Standoff Following Alleged Assault On Brother

SANTEE, CA — A man was arrested after an hourslong standoff with sheriff's deputies in Santee, authorities said Thursday.

Deputies from the Santee Sheriff's Station and Lakeside Sheriff's Substation responded just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 11000 block of Collinwood Drive after receiving a report of an assault involving two adult brothers, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Chance Eckert, 25, strangled his brother for about 30 to 45 seconds. Deputies also learned Eckert had access to multiple firearms inside the home.

Deputies evacuated several family members and attempted to contact Eckert by cell phone and through public address announcements. After those efforts failed, the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, or SWAT, responded to the scene.

Deputies obtained and served a search warrant before making contact with Eckert in his bedroom shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday. He was taken into custody without incident.

Deputies seized eight rifles from various locations inside the home pursuant to the search warrant.

Eckert was booked into San Diego Central Jail on felony assault charges.
