
138 Santeeans were part of the nearly 25,000 runners in the Rock'n' Roll Marathon and half marathon in San Diego on Sunday, with one local runner coming in the top 100 overall.
Samantha Espindola, 24, placed 93 overall, with a time of 3:04:33. The next highest placing local was Chris Hart, 49, who placed 1034, with a time of 3:47:55.
Dale Genschaw, 39, was the Santeean that placed highest in the half marathon, 190 overall, with a time of 1:27:17 39.
The big buzz around the half marathon this year was the winner, Bernard Koech, who ran the fastest half marathon ever recorded on American soil, in 58:41.
Kenyan Simon Njoroge won the men’s division of the marathon in 2:15:00 and Natalia Sergeeva took the women’s race, with a time of 2:35:05.
