Sheriff's SUV Crashes Into San Diego Trolley In Santee

SANTEE, CA – A San Diego County Sheriff's Department SUV crashed into the San Diego Trolley Monday morning near Gillespie Field airport in Santee, according to sheriff's officials. The collision delayed service along the Green Line, according to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at Cuyamaca Street and Prospect Avenue, according to sheriff's officials. A deputy responding to a vehicle fire at Prospect and Graves avenues entered the intersection of Prospect Avenue at Cuyamaca Street with his lights and siren on and collided with a southbound trolley, Sgt. Joe Passalacqua said.

There were 12 passengers on the trolley at the time of the collision, Passalacqua said. No injuries were reported.

Authorities had the stretch of tracks cleared and trolley service underway again within a half-hour, said Metropolitan Transit System spokesman Rob Schupp.

The sheriff's department is investigating the incident.
