Transient Found Beaten at Santee River Bottom: Sheriff
The victim was believed to be a resident of a homeless encampment, San Diego County sheriff's officials said.

SANTEE, CA: A 50-year-old man was in critical condition and doctors did not expect him to survive his injuries from an assault in the San Diego river bottom in Santee, authorities said Monday.
The man was found unresponsive and suffering from severe trauma to his upper body by deputies called to the river bottom near Chubb Lane and North Magnolia Avenue, San Diego sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Nelson said.
The victim was believed to be a resident of a nearby homeless encampment, Nelson said. Paramedics worked to save the victim at the scene and took him to a hospital for treatment.
