Trout Season Opens Soon At Santee Lakes

SANTEE, CA – 'Tis the season for trout at Santee Lakes.

Trout season kicks off with the annual Trout Opening Weekend event at Santee Lakes. The two-day event is slated Nov. 4-5 at Santee Lakes.

"This event is great for everyone, including families that want to spend some quality time together. It's also perfect for sport fishermen because there will be some trophy fish included in the stock," said event coordinator Greg Even.

Roughly 2,500 pounds of rainbow trout – with large fish up to 12 pounds – will be stocked for the event, Even said.

There will be prizes for the top five largest fish caught during the event, Even said. There will also be a drawing and a variety of prizes available for those who catch tagged Trout. In addition, the Lion's Club will be on site Saturday morning with coffee, hot chocolate and donuts for donations.

Trout season runs November 2017 through March 2018.

Approximately 1,000 pounds of trout is stocked at Santee Lakes every other week, Even said. A reopening event with a 2,000 pound stock of rainbow trout is scheduled in January.

Trout Opening Weekend will take place from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4-5. Gate entrance is $6 per vehicle. Permits are $9 for adults and $5 for juniors and seniors. Permits can be purchased in advance at the general store.
