Voepel and Dale Take Oath of Office for Mayor and City Council Seats

Following the recent certification of the November election results, incumbents Mayor Randy Voepel and Councilmember Jack Dale read their oaths of office and were reinstated at Wednesday's Santee City Council meeting.

John Minto was also installed as Vice-Mayor (councilmembers switch terms each year).

The two re-elected leaders spoke about their years running the city and what the future holds for Santee.

"The next four years will be some of the most influential in the citys history, but the future will be different than it has been in the past," Dale said, referencing tight budget constraints for the city and echoing much of what he said in his pre-election video interview.

He also mentioned that Santee has taken on enough of the County's "black sheep" projects such as the Las Colinas Detention Facility expansion, Sycamore Landfill, and Quail Brush Power Plant, which the city continues to oppose.

"Santee has done our share, it's time to put that kind of stuff in other cities," he said.

Mayor Voepel kept his speech shorter, celebrating Santee having one of the lowest crime rates in the county and reminisning on the idea that Santee's council gets along better than most governmental bodies, especially in not holding grudges against each other.
