Woman Fatally Shot During East County Break-In; Suspect Found Dead
Law enforcement later found the suspect dead in Orange County, authorities said.

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A woman was shot and killed during a reported break-in at a home in San Diego's East County, authorities said.
The break-in was reported at 10:24 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of La Presa Avenue in Spring Valley, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies found a woman with head trauma inside the home, Lt. Michael Krugh said. Despite lifesaving measures, the woman died from her injuries. The victim's name was not released as the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office worked to confirm her identity.

Law enforcement later found the suspect dead in Orange County, Krugh said. The relationship between the suspect and the victim was not yet known.
There was no other person of interest in the case, Krugh said.

"The sheriff's homicide unit is investigating and gathering more evidence," he said. "At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation. There are no outstanding suspects and no apparent danger to the community."
