1. CA: Saratoga bus pilot reports falling ridership due to inconsistent service (masstransitmag.com) — Saratoga leaders are trying to fix a troubled VTA bus pilot that's left Redwood Middle School students dealing with late or canceled rides, even as ridership has dropped by half. At the same Sept. 2 council meeting, officials voiced support for a Saratoga nonprofit potentially taking over the historic Blossom Festival to keep the tradition alive despite budget and staffing strains.
2. Single-family home sells in Saratoga for $4.6 million (eastbaytimes.com) — A single-family home on the 13000 block of Heath Street in Saratoga recently sold for about $4.55 million, or $1,314 per square foot, highlighting current neighborhood prices. Built in 1951, the seven-bedroom, six-bath house sits on a 13,500-square-foot lot with modern heating, cooling, and a two-car garage.
3. New playbook: Cupertino school has unique plan to keep football program afloat (fresnobee.com) — Monta Vista High's football program is rebuilding with a hybrid schedule that includes both JV and varsity matchups against Saratoga High this fall, including a JV game in Saratoga and a varsity rematch for Monta Vista's homecoming. The plan lets both schools keep football alive despite low numbers, shifting between levels to field safe, competitive games.
4. Music great, elected to Rock Hall of Fame with 2 bands, visits Bay Area (fresnobee.com) — Saratoga music fans can catch Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Peter Hook at the Mountain Winery on Sept. 22, where he'll perform New Order's "Get Ready" plus classic Joy Division and New Order songs. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., with tickets beginning around $56 through the venue's website.
