Happy 10-11-12

What does the date 10-11-12 mean exactly?

I feel sorry for today’s date, 10-11-12. It’s neat, but it’s not nearly as fascinating as last year’s 11-11-11 or—coming to our calendars soon—12-12-12.

So what is the big deal about these “pattern” number dates?

I’ve been reading up on the subject. In general, people think it’s lucky to do important things on interesting dates, like get married or play the lottery.

There may be something to that.

If you have a positive attitude and work towards something really hard, good things happen. I don’t know if unique numbers actually have powers but there are people called numerologists who study this type of thing and swear there is something to it.

An article in USA Today today says that the number of weddings held at a Las Vegas hotel were up today, more so than yesterday, but not quite as much as on the triplet dates like 7-7-7. It could be that it’s just easier to remember your anniversary date if you marry on 10-11-12, as opposed to say 10-10-12!

I know you Saratogans are a highly educated bunch so you might be interested in knowing that numerology has something to do with the mathematician Pythagoras. For those of you who forgot your Algebra lessons, he’s the dude with the famous theorem. Here is more detail:

According to Wikipedia, “numerology is any study of the purported divine, mystical or other special relationship between a number and some coinciding observed (or perceived) events. It has many systems and traditions and beliefs. Numerology and numerological divination by systems such as isopsephy were popular among early mathematicians, such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics or pseudoscience by modern scientists."

Wikipedia also says:

“Today, numerology is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. And . . .

“The term numerologist is also used derogatorily for those perceived to place excess faith in numerical patterns (and draw scientifically unsound inferences from them), even if those people do not practice traditional numerology. For example, in his 1997 book Numerology: Or What Pythagoras Wrought, mathematician Underwood Dudley uses the term to discuss practitioners of the Elliott wave principle of stock market analysis.”

Numerology website Adastria.com gives additional detail tailored to each individual. If you plug in your birthday it will tell you your lucky number. (You may want to give a fake name on the site so you are not giving your birthday to a “stranger” on line. Someone connecting your name and birthday could do a lot of damage, for example, it could lead to identity theft.)

I plugged in a fake name and birthday to the Adastria.com “app” which told me my lucky number is 8, my lucky day is Friday and my best year will be in 2020.

My son will be in college then. Maybe we’ll plan a trip around the world when he’s gone. This numerology is already having a positive impact on my life! I’m going on a trip of a life time! Neat-o!

Here are the numerology number definitions according to Wikipedia:

1. Individual. Aggressor. Self. Leadership Yang.
2. Balance. Union. Receptive. Partnership Yin.
3. Communication/interaction.
4. Creation.
5. Action. Restlessness. Life experience
6. Home/family. Responsibility.
7. Thought/consciousness. Spirit
8. Power/sacrifice.
9. Highest level of changes.”

So according to this list my number means “power/sacrifice.” Yes, that could explain a few things.

Have fun and let me know what your life number is and whether or not that will change the way you see the world.

And of course have a wonderful 10-11-12!
