The accident occurred Friday evening near East San Jose.

A motorcyclist killed Friday while driving north on U.S. Highway 101 in East San Jose has been identified as 54-year-old Kenneth Johnson, of Los Gatos, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

The motorist then reported seeing a dark-colored sedan make a sudden lane change to the right on the highway, apparently to make it to the exit onto Old Oakland Road, Lee said.

The witness noticed sparks flying up ahead on the road and then saw the motorcyclist’s body lying down in the No. 3 lane, according to Lee.
