Cyndi Lauper Comes to Saratoga!

Don't miss the 'fun' girl from the '80s this Wednesday evening at The Mountain Winery.

I love Cyndy Lauper ... I'll tell you why ...

It was 1983 and I was just beginning to gain my independence as a college freshman at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, but a little over-protective mother was driving me crazy ...

She would check on me via long phone conversations twice a week, disliked very much the guy I was dating at the time and whom I would marry in 1989 and, well, you can guess the rest and probably relate.

So I found solace in a song that I would sing after hanging up bummed by my weekly chats with my mother ... in fact, all my roommates would sing a song that became an anthem for girls' freedom and self assertion.

This Wednesday, June 19, I'm going to see one of my favorite '80s singers perform at The Mountain Winery, the amazing Cyndi Lauper will be in town.

Yes, indeed, I'll be once again reliving those memories engraved in my mind more than 20 years ago and sing loud and clear, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Lauper performs at 7:30 p.m. at The Mountain Winery, 14831 Pierce Rd. Tickets are between $35 and $85 and there are still plenty available.

I can't believe the concert is not sold out. I will be buying a $35 general admission ticket, but taking my binoculars to get a good look at an artist whose music brought much happiness to my college life.

I still have the cassette tape of Lauper's first album "She's So Unusual," for which she earned a Grammy and became the first female artist in history to have five Top 10 singles from a debut album.

This week's concert is part of the 30th anniversary celebration of that amazing album. In fact, the tour is called, "She's So Unusual."
