End-of-Life Conversations with Multigen Chinese American Families
CACCC Presents Free Online End-of-Life Conversations with Multigenerational Chinese American Families - September 18 & 25, 2021
San Jose CA – September 7, 2021 – The Chinese American Coalition for Compassionate Care (CACCC) presents free online “End-of-Life Conversations with Multigenerational Chinese American Families” on Saturday, September 18 and September 25. The multiple day online program features Kaiser Permanente’s palliative care physician, Dr. Esther Luo who will present “Talking About the Unspeakable: Discussing Serious Illness with Aging Parents” on September 18 from 4pm-6pm PT; 7pm-9pm ET and in Asia (September 19) 7am-9am. Panel of experts joining Dr. Luo to share their respective insights include: CACCC founder Sandy Chen Stokes, RN, MSN; Stanford Health Care Palliative Medicine & Geriatrics director Sandy Chan, LCSW, APHSW-C; CACCC co-chair and family caregiver Alex Tsao, PhD; Lifesprings Hospice Care patient care coordinator Rev. Daniel Hsueh, CMI, CCHI; and family members Kaiwen Zhang and Ray Yu.
On Saturday, September 25, CACCC will introduce the Heart to Heart® Café and demonstrate how to start the conversation with the participants. Both programs are conducted in Mandarin with simultaneous English and Cantonese interpretation. Participants completing the program evaluation at the conclusion of the café will receive a complimentary deck of Heart to Heart® cards sponsored by AARP.
“We are extremely pleased to provide this online end-of-life conversation and Heart to Heart Café program to multigenerational Chinese American family households in the Bay Area and beyond,” said Sandy Chen Stokes, CACCC founder and board member. “Conducting the event in Mandarin and providing simultaneous interpretation in English and Cantonese will enhance a meaningful communication experience for each family member and/or caregiver.”
