Other facts

Four years ago, I was elected to the Saratoga City Council. I have worked diligently as Council member and mayor to improve our city for all Saratogans.

I provided constructive and effective leadership during the worst economic downturn in our city's history.

During my term, I worked to solidify our city finances, lower taxes, upgrade and improve our city infrastructure, and improve our business climate.

Here are some of my accomplishments in the last four years:

  • Created long-term sustainable budget, reserves, and financial policies Successfully negotiated city-wide pension and healthcare reforms as well as vacation caps
  • Refinanced the City Library Bond saving taxpayers $2,700,000
  • Improved roads to the highest service level in years
  • Restored the 20-foot height limit in all commercial neighborhood areas
  • Acquired the Quarry Property creating largest city open space park and improved several other parks
  • Protected citizens with new cell tower and revised building notice ordinances
  • Overhauled the business permit process to be quicker and cheaper
  • Updated our sign, fence, and parking ordinances

In the coming four years, there are several important things that need to be completed:

  • Negotiate a new solid waste (trash) hauler agreement
  • Continue to improve the city's fiscal policies
  • Continue to improve the business climate
  • Continue to protect our neighborhoods and the unique Saratoga environment for all citizens
  • Fix old, outdated and often unenforceable ordinances, such the noise ordinance
  • Resolve the state and regional mandate to locate more than 400 low-income housing units within Saratoga

These are serious, complex, and multifaceted problems. I have helped to solve some very serious issues during my first term. I have gained a greater working knowledge of our city, county and state governmental process, and am excited about applying what I have learns to solving these problems.

I will continue to listen, respect, and consider the opinions of all citizens. I will continue to make all decisions fairly and equitably. I will continue to serve all Saratogans with my high level of fortitude, dedication, and hard work.

As I ask each citizens for their vote this November, I would like them to take a minute and ask themselves what they can do to help make Saratoga a better place for everyone. We have one of the most special cities in the world and I plan to continue to work hard for ever citizen.
