Is Saratoga's Little Amsterdam Closed?
No, siree! It's alive and well and continuing to serve customers its wonderful breakfast meals.
On a recent afternoon walk down Saratoga Village we heard a visitor asking if Saratoga's Little Amsterdam restaurant, 14490 Big Basin Way, was closed.
Not at all, explained Saratoga Mayor Jill Hunter, a fan of the business' succulent breakfast meals being dished out day after day by owner Tom Vanderoogen.
Under his ownership for more than 35 years, the restaurant is described by a Yelp reviewer as: "Classic, coffee shop with a touch of dutch."

From another Yelp reviewer: "Warning Foodies: Eating here is more of cultural-anthropological than gastric adventure. This is a campy relic/ greasy spoon of days of yore! Little Amsterdam must have a super-natural inner-core to withstand all the adverse change that Saratoga has incurred since it opened for business over 4 decades ago Hold on ... that inner core would be their waitresses!
"That all said, I really I like getting breakfast here. Great hash browns, yummy bacon for those of you who go down that path, eggs however you like them, but make sure you save room for the Dutch pancakes/pannekoeken."
Since we're also new in Saratoga we asked Hunter about why the restaurant was empty in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, and she informed us its hours of operation are 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday.

We stopped by incognito last week and ordered the house's specialty—waffles, pancakes and hash-browns and we weren't disappointed.
