Overturned Big-Rig Causes Small Diesel Spill Outside Castle Rock
The truck lost its brakes and the driver purposely drove it into a mountain to stop it.

An overturned big-rig caused a small diesel spill in Castle Rock State Park outside of Saratoga this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The dirt-hauling truck was reported on its side with a broken axle near the intersection of state Highway 9 and Sanborn Road at 7:34 a.m., CHP Officer Ross Lee said.
The truck lost its brakes and the driver purposely drove it into a mountain to stop it, Lee said.

It was hauling two trailers and one of them overturned. The truck’s driver was able to get out on his own and was uninjured, Lee said.
The crash caused a small diesel spill but firefighters were able to quickly contain it and kept it from leaking into a nearby creek, Lee said.

A hazardous materials team responded and confirmed there was no danger to the creek.
One lane of the highway is closed this morning and the CHP is conducting one-way traffic control in the area. A tow crew is heading to the area to get the big-rig back upright.
