Spring has come and gone during the shutdown of the Roudon Smith Winery tasting room in Saratoga. Owner Al Drewke hoped to reopen by now as the state had allowed once the county was ready. He says, “With the way Santa Clara County has gone I expected us to lag the state by a couple of weeks, but now suspect that news over the last couple days will push this back. There has been no word or indication of the county's plans this month so we just need to continue being ‘patient’! On a personal note, I have missed opportunities to visit with you this Spring...not only in the tasting room but also at the wine walks and other events such as the Chardonnay II Winemaker Sails.

As we await an announcement from the county we are looking at what we have to do to accommodate the reopening. With social distancing in mind, we should be able to accommodate as many as 6 small groups at one time. To do this we are working on adding a couple of bar height tables along the wall with the artwork. I and my helpers will be masked or shielded as we pour and doing all that we should to maintain a clean and safe environment.”

He continues, “As mentioned in a prior update, wine orders can be taken for either pick up at the tasting room or delivery. The easiest way is to utilize the online store, http://roudonsmith.com/shopping/ where you can place an order and pay securely. We have recently added SSL to the website to make a more secure environment to enter orders. The e-commerce engine provides a local delivery option at the time of order as well as the existing pickup option. I will contact you to either arrange the delivery or schedule a pickup appointment upon receipt of your order. Orders for 6 or more bottles receive a discount and include delivery if desired. Orders of all sizes within a 20-mile radius of the tasting room will also have delivery included. For orders of less than 6 bottles and more than 20 miles from the tasting room, there will be a $5 delivery fee added to cover gas...this will be coordinated with you on the order confirmation call.

For delivery, some shade is required near the front door so that wine isn't left in the sun or rain. I will either ring the bell or text to let you know delivery has been successfully done...we will coordinate how this is handled when I contact you, allowing the wine to get to you while respecting social distancing protocols.

To make an order over the phone, call 408-313-5229 and we will assist you. A final alternative would be to email us at sales@roudonsmith.com. Regardless of how we receive your order, it will be fulfilled typically within 24 hours and often we fulfill a delivery for the same day...one benefit of living just 5 minutes from the tasting room!

I want to do all that Roudon-Smith can to help you all through this period...your support of us over time is truly appreciated. I hope this process will help make your days a bit more enjoyable by offering the way for you to get some more wine and I look forward to seeing you once the tasting room reopens!”
