Updated: Saratoga's Comerica Bank Robbed at Gunpoint, Suspect At Large

Residents report arrest, however, deputies say those temporarily taken into custody were employees or customers.

Update: 11 a.m. Friday, May 3: Comerica Bank, 13000 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd., was robbed at gunpoint Thursday afternoon at about 2 p.m. by a suspect wearing a mask and brandishing a firearm, according to sheriff's deputies.

Lt. Neil Valenzuela, the assistant commander for the West Valley Division of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, reported that the suspect demanded money verbally, was inside the bank for several minutes and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Susan Siravo, a spokeswoman for Comerica Bank, called this publication this morning to warn against using images taken following the incident of possible arrestees, as those in the pictures were not suspects.

She referred additional questions to the sheriff's department.

Valenzuela explained, however, that when deputies are dispatched to a robbery, they sometimes don't know who the suspect is and employees or customers exiting the bank may be temporarily detained until they establish who they are and are then released.

Several readers are emailing Saratoga Patch to report a robbery this afternoon at about 2:30 p.m. at the Comerica Bank, 13000 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd.

According to Pradeep Fernandes, Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and caught the suspect.

Employees at the bank would not confirm nor deny that the crime had taken place, and referred all inquiries to the sheriff's office.

Fernandes said customers from the nearby Starbucks were taking photos of the arrest, incident.

The bank is located near the Argonaut Place Shopping Center.
