Updated: Saratoga's Plumed Horse Restaurant Burglarized

Merchants wishing to remain anonymous are reporting that Saratoga's Michelin-starred Plumed Horse Restaurant, 14555 Big Basin Way, was burglarized on Monday.

A couple of emails have been sent to Saratoga Patch with information that the elegant and modern California cuisine eatery was broken into, but no time of the crime was given.

"I heard that the Plumed Horse got burglarized on Monday and that a substantial amount of wine was stolen," an email from a Saratoga Village merchant read.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's spokesman Jose Cardoza was not immediately available to provide additional information about the crime.

However, Sheriff's captain Kenneth Binder, over the West Valley Patrol Division, which covers the City of Saratoga, confirmed that the burglary had taken place sometime between Sunday and Monday.

A restaurant employee, who declined to be identified, would not confirm nor deny that the burglary had taken place and referred calls to Plumed Horse managers and owners.

"It was burglary, not a robbery. There's a big difference," Capt. Binder said about the crime, adding that investigators are looking into the exact time of when the break-in took place.

"We're still doing a lot of investigation on it so we don't want to put a lot of information out on it," Binder said.

The crime was reported to authorities Monday morning, Binder added. "Obviously we would advice all merchants to follow good safety practices, including making sure all doors are locked and that alarms are on, if they have them."
