Saratoga's West Valley College Showcases High School Students' Art

Exhibit runs through March 27 in the college student center on Fruitvale Avenue.

The first Silicon Valley High School Art Invitational exhibit is on display 12:30-3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at the West Valley College Art Gallery in the College Student Center, 14000 Fruitvale Ave., through March 27.

A reception with the artists and public was held March 13.

The public, students and the college community are invited to see the more than 30 works of art created by students of Bellarmine College Preparatory and Lynbrook high schools in the media of drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics.

The West Valley College gallery previously hosted the now-discontinued visual arts exhibits for the South Bay "Olympiad of the Arts," a juried competition in the arts featuring many local high schools, said WVC art professor Jason Challas.

"We hope to revive a tradition of an annual showcase of some of the best high school art from the local area," Challas said. "We hope to grow the exhibition and have juried awards in future years."
