Saratoga Wins Mayor's Cup at Turkey Trot

For second year in a row, city takes the top prize in the small town category.

For the second year in a row, Saratoga has won the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot's Brocade Mayor's Cup Challenge in the small city category.

Every member of the Saratoga City Council signed up to participate in the Thanksgiving Day 10K race sponsored by Applied Materials and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.

"Our city has been a real supporter of the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot each year," said Saratoga Councilman Howard Miller, who participated in the event this year with daughter Erin, just as he did in 2011.

"Now let's go for three," said Saratoga Councilman Chuck Page during the Dec. 5 Council meeting, who also participated in the event.

Even Saratoga City Manager Dave Anderson and staff members signed up to participate.

According to organizers, the 2012 event raised $700,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank, The Housing Trust and the Children's Health Initiative. One anonymous donor contributed $500,000 to bring the total to $1.2 million.
