If you live in Saratoga, you know it's one of the reasons why people fall in love with this town ...
Down Fruitvale Avenue, just a little off the commotion of Highway 85 and West Valley College—believe it or not—you find the Novakovich Orchards and ...
Bing cherries!
This time of year, cars are lining up on any given afternoon down a long driveway at 14251 Fruitvale Ave. to buy the delicious fruit.
A local ad in the Saratoga News, the weekly newspaper, reads: "Come and try them for yourself! Tree-ripened, sweet and juicy."
The orchards also sell dried apricots, peaches and nectarines as well as jams and jellies.
Emily Novakovich told us her family has owned the farm since 1925. "Our entire summer is basically fresh fruit," she said motioning to boxed cherries displayed on the front counter of a store house inside the property.
A five-pound box of Bing cherries is $22.50 and a 1½-pound box of cherries is $6.75. The orchard also sells Tartarian cherries, which sell for $5 for a 1½-pound box.
The orchards' hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. The business is closed on Saturday.
