What Kind of Asian Are You?

YouTube video makes fun of stereotypes.

—Written by Sheila Sanchez

If you come from any ethnic group, you'll totally relate to David Neptune and Ken Tanaka's video posted last week on YouTube that shows how embarrassing and ugly stereotypes are.

Soon after the video's opening scene, a Caucasian man with blue eyes, fair skin and light hair asks and says to an Asian woman, "Where are you from? Your English is perfect."

The hilarious and eye-opening exchange, which takes place on a jogging trail, reveals how ignorant and insensitive people with preconceived notions about ethnic groups can be.

The woman replies, "San Diego." The subsequent question and the tone in which it's asked, further adds insult to injury. "Where are you from?" the man repeats in a slow tone, enunciating each word as if the woman "with perfect English" didn't initially understand him.

"Well, I was born in Orange County," she answers. He presses on: "But before that?" To which she replies with a question, "Before I was born?"

Then more salt is rubbed on the wound, as is often the case. "Where are your people from?" the man continues.

The woman explains her great-grandmother was from Seoul, Korea.

Watch the rest and enjoy the best part ... when the woman throws back at the man the same awful stereotypes he's revealed to her.

Hope some of our readers relate and have a good laugh.

The video was released as part of YouTube's Comedy Week and it's educating America about what not to say to those from different ethnic backgrounds.
