About a dozen perennial lianas have their branches roped together at both entrances of popular shopping center on Saratoga Avenue.
What's up with the palm trees at the Westage Shopping Center on the Saratoga-San Jose border, 1600 Saratoga Ave.?
For the past few weeks, the perennials' large leaves have been seen roped together at the top.
We found 12 palm trees in such state on both entrances to the mall on the busy avenue.

The mall continues renovations and signs of construction are everywhere, including near such entrances.
The center's upgrades are expected to be completed by summer 2013, according to its website.

The improvements include adding a food court, a children’s soft play area, tech lounge, family restrooms with a mother’s lounge and several furnished public common areas, the website said.
New flooring and lighting will also be installed throughout the interior common areas, it added.
