Baymonte's Race For Classroom Technology
Baymonte Christian School's second annual "Tech Trek" on Saturday aims to raise $40,000 for classroom technology tools such as iPads and smartboards.

For the second year, will be hosting its “Tech Trek” in order to purchase more technology tools such as smartboards and iPads in the classrooms.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, the 400-student school will host two races--a 5K and 1K. There will also be a “Harvest Festival” from 8 a.m. to noon, aimed at raising awareness of healthy eating habits through exhibitions, vendors, and fitness demonstrations.
The school is hoping to generate at least $30,000, the amount last year’s race yielded, but ideally $40,000, coordinator Gretchen Cortes said.
“Anybody can participate,” Cortes said. “You can sign up on our website, or even show up the morning of the race.”
The 1K “Fun Run” starts at 8 a.m, and the 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m. Same-day registration will be available starting at 7 a.m. The 1K costs $20 and the 5K costs $30. Registration is also available now on the school’s website.
With the money generated, the school will purchase more technology tools such as iPads, and install smartboard interactive whiteboards in the classrooms. Last year, the school used the money to purchase several new smartboards, 20 Apple MacBooks and 6 Apple computers.
There will also be a “premium raffle” at the Harvest Festival, Cortes said, with prizes such as a kids’ cruiser bike, a musical giraffe, and a one-week hotel stay in either the U.S., Mexico, or Canada.
“This is a huge community event,” said Cortes, adding that 500 people attended last year. “We’re hoping this year is even bigger.”
