Brothers Killed in Suspect DUI Crash ID'd as Ruben and Ignacio Guzman

The Watsonville men were driving on Holohan Road east of Green Valley Road when they were struck by a 1994 Toyota Tacoma heading west.

Two brothers killed in a two-car collision Sunday evening north of Watsonville were identified as 76-year-old Ignacio Guzman and 71-year-old Ruben Guzman, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s Lt. Kelly Kent said.

The Watsonville brothers were in a 1989 Ford Taurus on eastbound Holohan Road east of Green Valley Road shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, when they collided with a 1994 Toyota Tacoma heading west, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Erin Wakefield, 57, of Boulder Creek, was driving the Toyota that had crossed the roadway’s solid double yellow line and hit the Ford head-on, CHP officials said.

Ignacio Guzman was driving the Ford and transported to Watsonville Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Kent.

Ruben Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene, Kent said. Wakefield was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for major injuries and was later arrested on suspicion driving while under the influence of drugs, CHP officials said.
