Brush Fire Forces Road Closure Near Boulder Creek

BOULDER CREEK, CA — A brush fire burning off Deer Creek Road and Rons Road, northeast of Boulder Creek in Santa Cruz County, has injured a firefighter and forced the closure of Bear Creek Road from Moonrise Road to Skyline.

The blaze, dubbed the Deer Fire, was reported Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. and had consumed 10-12 acres at press time, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze was being fought by air and on the ground.

By evening, Cal Fire said crews had contained the brusher to 10-12 acres in very steep terrain and there were no current evacuations in place, although Bear Creek road remained closed. One firefighter received minor injuries, the agency said.

Over 150 firefighters will remain on the line overnight building and reinforcing containment lines, Cal Fire reported.
