‘Deplorable, Inhumane Conditions’ Prompt Rescue Of 34 Dogs, Santa Cruz Co. Officials Say

BREAKING: Officials said the Boston Terriers, Tibetan Spaniels, and one Chihuahua mix will be examined by a shelter veterinarian.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — More than 30 dogs were rescued this week from “deplorable and inhumane conditions” in a Scotts Valley home, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter officials said. Authorities, alerted by a neighbor, were familiar with the address due to past complaints of dog breeding.

A warrant was issued for the residence and officials say 34 neglected dogs were confiscated Thursday from the home. Officials said the Boston Terriers, Tibetan Spaniels, and one Chihuahua mix will be examined by a shelter veterinarian.

The Scotts Valley Police Department, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the case. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is accepting donations to help care for the dogs.
