Driver Killed in Overturned Big-Rig ID'd as Watsonville Man

Authorities believe the crash was caused by a brake failure.

A man killed a big-rig rollover crash Monday east of Corralitos in Santa Cruz County was identified today as 48-year-old Juan Guerrero, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

Guerrero, a Watsonville resident, was driving the big-rig downhill on Mount Madonna Road about 2 miles north of Hazel Dell Road where the vehicle overturned around noon, California Highway Patrol Officer Trista Sharp said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Sharp said.

A passenger inside the truck complained of pain and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, Sharp said.

The truck measured about 30 feet long and was hauling tools, according to Sharp.

The crash was possibly caused by a brake failure, she said.
