The Tempest:Revisited in Medieval Japan

The Tempest: Revisited

July 14, 15, and 16 at 7 PM, and July 17 at 2 PM.

The Tempest: Revisited sets Shakespeare's original play in Medieval Japan.  Always looking for ways to educate, as well as create a memorable theater experience for the group, Trish Black Melehan has adapted Shakespeare’s original script to be set in a completely different locale. Original characters morphed quite easily into Japanese lords, kami spirits, samurai vassals, barbarian natives, crusty mariners, and wise, worldly goddesses.  Original comic, class rivalries are portrayed with a Japanese flare.  It is a comedy, after all!   Japanese style music, provided by local harpist Alexandra Romanoff, singing, and dance add texture to Shakespeare's famous story and make for an enjoyable theater experience suitable to audiences of all ages.  Guest Japanese musicians, such as the Watsonville Taiko Drums will be making special appearances throughout the run of the show.
