Sports run deep in Scotts Valley, and Scotts Valley High School has long been at the heart of it. Itβs no surprise some standout talent once wore the Falcons uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Scotts Valley High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
Dominique Parrish β World Champion Wrestler
Dominique Parrish is a world-class American freestyle wrestler and a graduate of Scotts Valley High School. After a standout high school career, she went on to achieve elite success at the collegiate and international levels, ultimately capturing a senior-level World Championship. Parrish is widely recognized for her technical skill, competitiveness and contributions to the rise of womenβs wrestling on the global stage. (Source: USA Wrestling)
Shane Carle β Minor & Major League Baseball Star
After playing high school ball at Scotts Valley, Shane Carle took the long road to the majorsβthrough Cabrillo College, Long Beach State and multiple minor league stops. Drafted in 2013, Carle eventually debuted in the MLB with the Colorado Rockies in 2017 and later pitched for the Atlanta Braves. Danica Kelley β Title-Winning Female Wrestler
Danica Kelley made history for Scotts Valley High by winning the 135-pound title at the CIF State Wrestling Championships, becoming only the second female wrestler in Santa Cruz County to earn that distinction. Robbie Erlin β County Player Of The Year Turned Baseball Pro
Scotts Valley native Robbie Erlin was named Santa Cruz County Player of the Year in 2009 before going pro straight out of high school. Drafted by the Texas Rangers and later traded to the Padres, Erlin pitched for several MLB teams and even competed in Japanβs NPB. Vaughn Chomentowski β Powerhouse Back & PCAL Player Of The Year
Scotts Valleyβs playoff dreams came true in 2025 thanks in large part to Vaughn Chomentowski, who capped his senior season by being named PCAL Offensive Player of the Year. The bruising back rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown in a must-win game against St. Francis, securing the Falconsβ spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs.
