Get Out in Scotts Valley

Where/When: 5900 Butler Ln., (Satellite Telework Center). Thursday, 5:30-7 p.m.

Where/When: 21600 Big Basin Way, Boulder Creek (Big Basin Redwoods State Park). Saturday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: See it all from McAbee Outlook. Docent Doreen Devorah will take you on a hike to the top that goes through old-growth redwood forest. You will be hiking six miles for about 3½ hours. A bit of a workout, but well worth it.

Where/When: , 320 Cedar St., Santa Cruz. Thursday, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: Need you ask? These musicians have the Quincy Jones' seal of approval. Cuban piano phenomenon Alfredo Rodriguez has made appearances throughout Europe and Latin America since the age of 15. He draws on the classics to infuse his jazz. You won't be sorry if you come and hear this trio play!

Pricing: $20 in advance; $23 at the door

Where/When: , 2809 Mission St., Santa Cruz (Wilder Ranch State Park). Friday, 3:30-5 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 

Why Go: This is a two-day special event with representatives of an international mountain biking association working with community groups to educate them and help volunteers build trails. Friday, the trail crew will meet with community leaders. On Saturday, there will be an all-day, trail-building school at Wilder Ranch State Park. You can make a difference!

Pricing: Free 

Where/When: , 307 Church St., Santa Cruz. Saturday, 8 p.m. 

Why Go: It's the county symphony's third concert of the season. The symphony performs a selection of delightful treats including "Capriccio Espagnol" by Rimsky-Korsakov and Liszt's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2. Grammy-nominated pianist Adam Neiman appears as soloist. 

Pricing: $18 to $65
