Good causes give good reason to get out this weekend: Relay for Life, Scotts Valley police drug abuse resistance efforts; also on deck, a tomato growing workshop.

Why Go: D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a curriculum that Scotts Valley Police teach to fifth- and seventh-grade students. No need to say how important the program is and this fundraiser helps Scotts Valley police keep it going. All proceeds benefit the program.

Why Go: If you have never tried zumba as a way to exercise, you don't know what you are missing. You dance, you move, you get a great workout and you have a lot of fun while you do it. Zumba instructor Dora Solinas will show you what to do.

Why Go: This is definitely a something for everyone event and we mentioned it in our kids’ planner this week. But not everyone has kids at home. Relay For Life is a FREE 24-hour walking event to celebrate cancer survivors, and the rest of us, too. The event kicks off with a recognition and celebration of cancer survivors who are invited to walk the first lap. A special luminaria ceremony is set for dusk Saturday.

Why Go: This is the start of the summer produce season and Chaminade will kick off with its Farm-to-Table dinner series. And to make the evening even more special, the wines of Poetic Cellars will be paired with the food to be served. Executive Chef Beverlie Terra is at the helm, using local produce and meats from Farm to Feat and Coastside Chickens.
