Where/When: Beach and Main streets, Santa Cruz, Sunday, 7 a.m.

Why Go: If you're not running, you probably don't have to be there that early. But no matter what, you don't want to get there too late. It's always good sportsmanship to cheer on those who are participating in the run. The festivities are on Cowell's Beach when the race is over.

Pricing: If you are watching, free. Check with race organizers for cost and possibilities of last-minute registration.

Big Basin Vineyards Spring Release Celebration

Why Go: Join the party to celebrate the release of the spring wines. (And indulge in some tastings, of course, too!) Live on Saturday you can see musician Dan Robbins, and on Sunday, Scott Law and Darol Anger. There is also an art show and, for the adventurous, a vineyard talk.

Pricing: $17

Where/When: 417 Trout Gulch Road, Aptos, (Barry Swensen Property Builders), Saturday and Sunday, all day.

Why Go: If you are a mountain biker or think you might want to become one, you will get more than your fill of activities around mountain biking this weekend. There will be professional and amateur jump competitions, short track races, bike skill clinics and more. An expo runs both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from the 2011 event will be dedicated to a permanent bike park in Aptos.

Pricing: Check with info@santacruzmountainbikefestival.com. If you want to compete, you have until end of day Thursday to sign up.

Where/When: , 230 Mount Hermon Road, Sunday, noon-4 p.m.

Why Go: We talked about this event in our Kids Planner, but for those of you who don't have kids and might not have seen the mention, we wanted to say something again. This is a chance to do a little shopping (think Mother's Day) and support a great cause at the same time, Relay for Life. Lots of goods will be available. There will also be a raffle with fantastic prizes.

Pricing: Free (except for what you buy!)
