Get Out: Your Guide to the Weekend

Take in Grease at SVHS, drink wine during Passport day or tour a local garden this weekend.

Grease Opens at SVHS

Where/When: Scotts Valley High School, 555 Glenwood Dr. Performances run Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m.

What: More than 75 SVHS students are participating in the spring production of “Grease.” The musical transports the audience back to Rydell High 1959, with duck-tailed, hot-rodding “greasers” and gum-snapping, hip-shaking "pink ladies.” Head greaser Danny Zuko and new good-girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to create high romance as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through "Greased Lightnin," “Freddy My Love,” “Born to Hand Jive” and other songs that became the soundtrack of a generation. 

Price: Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students, and are available at the door or online at www.showtix4u.com

Where/When: Scotts Valley Library, 251 Kings Village Rd. Saturday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Local poet/teacher Magdalena Montagne will be at the library leading a free writing workshop for the community. In the poetry circle, students will write new works in a supportive and fun environment. All levels and ages are encouraged to attend.

Garden Tour

Where/When: , 1554 Bean Creek Rd. Saturday, 10 a.m.

What: The Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will be having a garden tour of Bay Laurel Nursery. Bay Laurel is a wholesale nursery that has been in existence since 1977 and features plants such as rhododendrons, camellias, and pieris. To reach Bay Laurel Nursery, from the intersection of Scotts Valley Drive and Bean Creek Road, head North on Bean Creek Road about 1.5 miles, and the nursery will be to your left.

SCMWA Spring Passport Day

Where/When: Various Santa Cruz Mountains Wineries. Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

What: The Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association is holding its Spring Passport Day. This is a chance for wine lovers to visit wineries that are not normally open to the public.

Two Scotts Valley wineries will be participating in the festivities. Skov Winery will be holding a Farmers Market Day and hosting an array of small local vendors offering samples of their products, such as Delk's infused honey, Friend in Cheeses Jam Co., Melinda’s Gluten Free deserts, Fish Princess Soaps and more. Heart of the Mountain will also be participating with wine tasting during the day.

Price: Passports are $45 and can be purchased at all participating wineries.

Spring Student Art Show

Where/When: Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation classroom at Skypark, 361 Kings Village Rd. Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

What: The artwork of over 60 students from the Scotts Valley Art Center will be on display for the community to view. Professional artist Shirley Lehner-Rhoades has been teacher art at the center for 10 years and has helped to develop the skills and talents of students at every age, from 5 and up.
