Where/When: Civic Auditorium, 307 Church St., Santa Cruz; Sunday, 2 p.m.
Why Go: To hear our very own county symphony orchestra and to enjoy this kid-friendly foray into the music of the symphony and the "Rhythms of Life."

Pricing: $10; students and seniors, $8.
Where/When: , 1305 E. Cliff Dr., Santa Cruz; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Because you get to wander around the museum for free! There's no admission charge the first Thursday of the month, so take advantage of that. Take your stay-at-home kids and pick up the older ones and head over there after school. Enjoy!

Where/When: Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This is a premier model show and a contest. There will be model trains, planes, cars and more. There will be more than 100 modelers and 400 entries, with an eyeful of models to look at and lots of "make and take" for kids and raffles for all!
Pricing: $5-$10
Where/When: 2446 Cabrillo College Dr., Soquel. Starts Friday for seven weeks, 9:30-11 a.m.
Why Go: If you are interested in the Montessori approach to education for your little ones, this is a good way to either get involved, or if you are new to the idea, a way to learn more about it for you and your child. Santa Cruz Montessori School will offer a seven-week course of study and exchange starting Friday. You can get more information and register by calling 831-476-1646.
Pricing: $45 for the seven-week course
Where/When: Borders Books, 1855 41st Ave., Capitola.
Saturday, 2 p.m.
Why Go: To celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss! This event is for kids ages 6-10. It's all about reading, which is why it's called Read Across America. And it's the birthday of Dr. Seuss!
Pricing: Free
