Man Suspected Of Santa Cruz Drive-By Shooting Arrested In Scotts Valley

A 29-year-old Watsonville man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of a drive-by shooting that injured a man last weekend in Santa Cruz.

SCOTTS VALLEY - A 29-year-old Watsonville man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of a drive-by shooting that injured a man last weekend in Santa Cruz, police said Thursday.

Officers arrested Anthony Jimenez at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday where he works in Scotts Valley.

Santa Cruz police said the vehicle Jimenez was driving matched the description of the vehicle witnesses saw at the time of the shooting.

Jimenez and a 20-year-old Santa Cruz man allegedly got into an argument at a party Sunday at the home where the shooting occurred on Sunday.

Jimenez allegedly left the home and came back and fired multiple shots into the home's doorway, hitting the victim in the foot, according to police. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Everyone else escaped injury, police said.

The shooting occurred at 4:09 a.m. in the 200 block of Washburn Avenue, according to police.

Officers found several bullets at the home and witnesses told officers they saw a light-colored Volkswagen Jetta leaving the area after the shooting.

Detectives found additional evidence in the case when they served a search warrant Wednesday at Jimenez's home, but have not found the gun allegedly used in the shooting.

Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied home and criminal threats, police said.
