PHOTO GALLERY: High School and Middle School Bands Play With the Pros
Mirari Brass Quintet comes to Scotts Valley High for a lesson in music for the students.
Scotts Valley High School and Middle School music students had a treat on Wednesday when the Mirari Brass Quintet, a professional music group, visited the school to play with the two student bands.
"The students were so respectful and in awe of their level of musicianship. They performed for us and then both the middle school and high school bands got to play some pieces and they played along," school music director Beth Hollenbeck said in an email. "Then [they] gave some valuable learning tips for the students."
Hollenbeck said that 41 music students participated in the clinic, which was funded through a grant given to the music department last year by the Scotts Valley Kiwanis Club for music education. The money came from money raised through the 2010 summer Music in Skypark concert series.
