The literacy organization has been providing proven volunteer-led, one-on-one reading support to under-resourced public elementary schools since 1997. The program seeks to serve more than 1,300 students in 25 schools in Silicon Valley, but 395 students are waiting to be matched with a volunteer reading partner tutor.

According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, in 2015 only 21% of fourth graders from low-income families are reading at grade level. Without reading, kids won’t have an equitable chance to succeed.

“I cannot say enough about the experience of tutoring with Reading Partners,” says Nicole Johnson, Executive Director of Reading Partners Silicon Valley. “The bond you build with your student tutoring them on a weekly basis is an irreplaceable experience- both for you and the child. We can move the needle for these kids- all it takes is time and our easy-to-follow curriculum to make a measurable impact.”
