Why Go: A chance to sample wines and gourmet food. "Healthy any way you slice it" is the theme for this year's 2010 showcase hosted by the Aptos and Capitola/Soquel Chambers. A food and wine pavilion hosting more than 20 restaurants, caterers and wineries will offer scrumptious treats for you to sample.
Pricing: $5, which includes a few wine-tasting tickets.

Where/When: , 230 Mt. Hermon Rd., Scotts Valley (Suite "G" across from Cinelux in the Kings Village Shopping Center). Friday, 6-10:30 p.m.
Why Go: You'll have a good time and help a good cause too. Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament benefitting Special Olympics Northern California and sponsored by the Scotts Valley Police Department. No-host bar and complimentary appetizers. Must be 21 years of age to play. Prizes for first-, second- and third-place winners and a raffle during the event.

BOYHOOD SHADOWS SCREENING PREMIER
Where/When: , 210 Lincoln St., Santa Cruz. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why Go: Survivors Healing Center will host a Santa Cruz premiere screening of Boyhood Shadows: I Swore I'd Never Tell, at the Nickelodeon Theater. This award-winning documentary by Terri DeBono and Steve Rosen explores the emotional carnage of childhood sexual abuse. Guests are also invited to attend a pre-film panel live music session with Laura Dare as well as a raffle and panel discussion with the cast and filmakers following the screening.
Pricing: $15 advance; $10 student; $20 at the door.
Where/When: Kuumbwa Jazz, 320-2 Cedar St. Monday, 7 p.m.
Why Go: Grammy-awarded pianist/keyboardist Bob James has travelled the long, winding road of jazz and earned a remarkably diverse fan-base along the way. His seminal 1970s work endures as a fixture on the DJ and hip-hop circuit. Every now and then, James returns to the bop that first inspired him; take, for instance, this pairing with seven-string guitarist Howard Paul. This meeting of minds should make for an intriguing conversation of bop and beyond.
Pricing: $22 advance; $25 at the door.
VIETNAMESE SPRING FESTIVAL PARADE
Where/When: Downtown San Jose at Market Street. Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: For the Vietnamese, this is the Year of the Cat. The event features arts and crafts, live music, cultural performances, martial arts, children’s games and Vietnamese food and drinks.
