Elliot Stone, a martial arts teacher from Scotts Valley, was traveling back from a tournament in South Korea with colleagues and family, including his fiancé and his father.
The group was able exit the plane without physical injuries, then tried to help passengers who had been hurt.
His father, Walter Stone, told reporters at the press conference, "We stayed, we stayed with each of our victims until emergency personnel got there. And once they got there and took control of that person, we left them and went looking for more people."
Wednesday, four passengers remained in critical condition Wednesday at the two Bay Area hospitals that took in the majority of patients after the plane crashed on Saturday.
