Scotts Valley Residents, Businesses Can Register Video Surveillance Footage
The program is voluntary. Footage could be useful in crime-solving and would not be shared with outside parties or interests, police said.

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA - In an ongoing effort to keep neighborhoods safe, the Scotts Valley Police Department announced Tuesday a voluntary surveillance system registration program for citizens.
Both residents and businesses of the community can compile and register their privately owned video camera surveillance footage, according to police. In the event of a crime, police said investigators may contact citizens to determine if useful information was captured by their cameras. Police said captured footage may also be relevant to other types of non-criminal cases, such as missing persons cases.
Lt. John Wilson said in a statement, "Video evidence can make or break a case."
