Sheriff to Speak on Immigration Reform

The event is Monday at Live Oak Elementary School in Santa Cruz.





Santa Cruz County Sheriff Phil Wowak, in partnership with COPA,Β will be hostingΒ a community discussion regarding immigration and community safety.Β 

The goal of the event is to share immigration and public safety stories and policies, andΒ strengthen the relationship between the community and law enforcement.

Wowak will be talk aboutΒ his views on immigration reform, current county community programs in place and his goal that all county residents feel safe.Β Previously, the sheriff has said he won't jail undocumented non-criminals.

COPA, as well as community members,Β will be sharing stories of successes and challenges regarding public safety andΒ immigration issues.Β COPA is a regional nonprofit organization spanning Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties, made up ofΒ 25 member institutionsΒ of churches, synagogues, public schools, school districtsΒ and nonprofits

There willΒ be an opportunity for those in attendance to participate in group discussions which will beΒ shared by COPA appointed facilitators.

The forum is 7-8 p.m. Monday at Live Oak Elementary School, 1916 Capitola Rd. in Santa Cruz.
