SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — A controlled burn at Henry Cowell Park is sending smoke across the region Tuesday. Cal Fire and the California Department of Parks and Recreation are overseeing the fire, which is expected to cover a wide area and will last throughout the day. Fire officials say prescribed burns help reduce the amount fuel in the park and will encourage growth of native plants and flowers while providing training for firefighters.
