~By Gary Hickey

Rain didn't stop lacrosse in Scotts Valley as the Falcons hosted the Santa Cruz Cardinals on Tuesday. The young team from Santa Cruz showed tremendous effort and dedication to the game but were up against the high flying Falcons.

Fifteen seconds into the game the first goal was scored by Santa Cruz. The Falcons were not focused, but a minute later regained composure when Bradley McClarnon found Collin Corbella for Scotts Valley's first goal. A minute after that Spencer Fogelquist fed Wesley Koenig who buried his first goal.

In the next few minutes midfielder McClarnon fired in two goals. The Falcons were up 4-1. With two and a half minutes left in the first quarter, the Falcons reeled off four goals, two by Koenig and two by Corbella. Corbella's last goal came with one second left in the first quarter bringing the score to 8-1 for Scotts Valley.

The rain did not effect the Falcons play as Collin Corbella got back to work 30 seconds into the second quarter, sniping in another goal with an assist from Anton Galewski. A minute later it was Corbella again and again, scoring four Falcon goals. Jake Rehnberg got in on the action with his first goal. Spencer Fogelquist steped up and scored two, then Koenig closed out the quarter with an unassisted goal.

At halftime, it was 15-1 Scotts Valley.

The Falcons were running on all cylinders. The third started out with Corbella finding Galewski for a goal and then Galewski returned the favor, assisting Corbella. Corbella was having a field day, scoring on almost every shot he took.

The next two goals were from Corbella. Then Griffin Curtis found Spencer Fogelquist on the crease for a nice goal. With four seconds left in the third, midfielder Jacob Sanchez decided to pass it to Corbella. Good idea Jacob, Corbella scored again.

In the fourth quarter the Falcons score three more times, it's Koenig, Corbella and Rehnberg. Santa Cruz could not keep up with the Falcons this year but showed the right attitude for a growing program. It was quiet on the defensive side of the field for the Falcons. The long sticks were solid when called upon and took little time getting the ball back to the offense.

Corbella had 11 goals on 12 shots and contributed five assists. Wesley Koenig had four goals and four assists, Spencer Fogelquist had four goals and one assist. Bradley McClarnon and Jake Rehnberg each had two goals. Anton Galewski had a goal and two assists, attackman Griffin Curtiss helped with three assists and Jacob Sanchez had an assist.

Scotts Valley is now 11-1 and will travel to Archbishop Mitty on Friday.
