Trio Busted for Allegedly Dumping Trash Along Hwy 9

BREAKING: A passerby called deputies after reportedly seeing the three men tossing garbage from a U-Haul.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – Three Santa Cruz men were arrested Wednesday morning after a passersby on state Highway 9 reported seeing them dumping trash out of a U-Haul truck, Santa Cruz County sheriff's officials said.

Lonnie Geist, 57, Gregory Killgore, 46, and Gregory Smith, 48, were arrested around 10 a.m. on suspicion of illegal dumping near Waterman Gap, the juncture between state highways 9 and 236 in the Santa Cruz
Mountains.

Killgore and Smith were released on $500 bail each, but Geist was held on $10,000 bail on suspicion of violating his probation and possession of nunchaku, according to booking records.

"Illegal dumping is not only an eyesore, but an environmental hazard," the agency said. "Should you notice similar activity please give us a call at 831-471-1121."
