Dear Scotts Valley Community,

As I sit here at my computer thinking about what I want to include in my last communication for 2020, I reflect upon the vast number of things that occurred this year accompanied with a multitude of emotions and responses that significantly impacted our world, our nation, and our local community.

We feel so relieved to be concluding the 2020 calendar year, and we are looking forward to new hope for a better 2021. As we look back over this year, we think of so many of the significant issues that have touched or affected us - a global pandemic, school closures, the Black Lives Matter movement, wildfires, an unpredictable economy, a tumultuous presidential campaign, and all of the personal things that occurred in our lives in addition to those, or because of those, events. This year has certainly tested our resiliency and at times, our optimism.

The strength we have moving forward as a community is our ability to continue to hold each other up, be mindful and thoughtful of others beyond thinking of ourselves, and persevere for the greater good. I am an educational leader because I truly believe that education is the key to our nation’s success and a great equalizer for all. Educational systems are changing and we are going to need to change alongside. As has been mentioned throughout the year, there have been some new learnings and “silver linings“ to this new situation that we will elect to carry forward.

Here is the collaborative letter from the County Superintendents.

I foresee 2021 to be another atypical year and we will all continue to work hard and tackle the challenges that come before us. I wish I could tell you what we can expect for 2021, but last I checked crystal balls were Out of Stock - on Backorder. However, it is imperative that we continue to work together while always keeping our students at the center of our focus.

I am so proud of the hard work and commitment of the Scotts Valley Unified School District employees. Our team has worked exceptionally hard this year and everyone is ready for a well-deserved break!

Thank you for continuing to work with us, and for the dedicated support of your students!

I hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday season.

Best wishes,

Tanya Krause
