"We will be providing parents with specific information regarding these schedules before school begins."

July 1, 2020

Welcome to July Scotts Valley Community,

Find out what's happening in Scotts Valleyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

I want to provide you with a brief update as of July 1. We are very excited that we are going to be able to acknowledge our seniors in a graduation parade ceremony tomorrow morning at Scotts Valley High School. Because we are still being required to adhere to social distancing which prohibits large gatherings, we will be abiding by those requirements. Only seniors and their families will be participating in the parade, and I believe the community is going to be showing their support along the way. Congratulations to the Senior Class of 2020!

I know many of you are wondering what the reopening of schools will look like in August. Please know that our administrative team worked for the last few weeks of June to develop draft plans for high to medium restrictions and medium to low restrictions for all sites, and site administrators are working with teachers to receive input on those draft schedules. Recently, however, the Governor signed the state budget which made additional changes to the requirements for reopening schools, and also final determinations on the state budget. We will be working over the course of the next two weeks to modify the draft plans that have been put in place to comply with the latest regulations. We are making every effort to bring students back to school within the social distancing parameters that we are allowed. While I understand some parents have concerns about returning students to school, we are asking Public Health for clarification in that area, as well as reviewing our possibilities. Over the course of the summer, the County’s Superintendents will continue to meet weekly with the Department of Public Health to receive updates on these requirements and the areas for flexibility.

Toward the end of July, you will be receiving a communication from me sharing the instructional schedules that we will be providing to TK-12 students and detailed plans for the reopening of schools. You can understand, the guidelines continue to change. We will be providing parents with specific information regarding these schedules before school begins. Please stay tuned.

These past few months have been a tumultuous time for so many reasons and for so many people. There’s so much change happening in the world. I encourage people to embrace positive change and be kind to all because everyone deserves it. Change is not always easy, but working together collaboratively and positively tends to bring us together as a collective. This is true for so many things.

Please be patient with us as we continue to pivot and adjust to the ongoing changes and requirements that regularly come our way. We will be in communication later in July.

Have a safe 4th of July weekend.

Respectfully,

Tanya Krause
