Wet Weather Doesn't Stop Falcon Lacrosse Team's Winning Streak

The team beats Pacific Collegiate School to stay perfect.

The Scotts Valley Falcons lacrosse team pushes its win streak to six by beating the Pacific Collegiate School Pumas.

The Falcons knew coming into the game that they would be facing a very good goalie and had to take good shots to score. As expected, Scotts Valley came out shooting and scored twice in the first minute of a wet game. Pacific Collegiate goalie, Brooks Gjelsten, then started making some saves holding the Falcons to four goals in the first quarter. Brooks wound up with an amazing 21 saves in the game. The Pumas scored twice in the first quarter to make the score 4-2.

The second quarter saw the Falcons score two goals and then get sloppy with their passing and catching. PCS took advantage and scored three goals. Falcon midfielder Jake Rehnberg stopped the bleeding and scored with three seconds left in the first half, ending a close half 7-5 Falcons.

After a good talking to from coach Wes Koenig, Scotts Valley came alive in the third quarter and outscored PCS 5-1. As the game went on, the Falcons midfielders took control, winning most of the face-offs and gaining possession with ground balls.

The fourth quarter saw a lot more Falcon action, play making and scoring, adding five goals to only two for PCS, bringing the final score to 17-8.

Six Falcons found the back of the net, led by attackman Spencer (the finisher) Fogelquist scoring in every quarter and winding up with five goals and two assists. Wesley Koenig pumped in four goals, adding three assists, and Collin Corbella rounded out the attack, scoring with two goals and two assists. Midfielder Jake Rehnberg was on his game controlling face-offs and scoring three goals and adding an assist. Midfielder Kevin Niemeyer contributed two goals and midfielder Mitchell Curtiss added a goal. Scotts Valley outshot PCS 43-20.

The Falcon defense had a tough day against the Pumas. The eight Falcon penalties helped the Pumas score several times while they had the advantage. Scotts Valley goalie Chris Martin had six saves in the game.

The Falcons improve their record to 6-0. Next stop, Soquel High School on Friday, March 16.
